Winzel was born in Broken Bow, Oklahoma April 10, 1941 to the late Jesse and Celopatra Hamilton. He attended Dumber High School in Oklahoma and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior in his childhood. He moved to Portland, Oregon in 1956.
He served in the US Army from 1963-1965. After serving in the military he was employed with Orowheat Bakery as a professional baker from 1967 until his retirement in 1994. It was during this time in the evenings that Winzel successfully earned his bachelor's degree from City University.
In 1977 he united with Maranatha Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. John Garlington. He was active in the men’s ministry, choir, praise team, Pioneer Club and was a faithful van driver for Sunday School.
In 1985 Winzel married Mary Hamilton. The two of them enjoyed a blended family and were married until the day the Lord called him home.
Winzel served as President of the Northeast Little League Baseball Association. He further served his community as a tutor for the Portland Public Schools.
From 1999-2016 Winzel reentered the workforce part-time as a security guard and was a life insurance broker. He was a devout reader, student of the bible and faithful sports fan.
In addition, Winzel enjoyed being close to athletics, serving as a basketball referee for schools in the Portland Metro area and community programs.
Winzel is preceded in death by parents Jesse and Celopatra Hamilton, two sisters June Kent, Alceta Williams, brother Jesse Hamilton and nephew Christ Kent.
He leaves to mourn his wife Mary Hamilton, sister Nilar Hamilton, daughter Charyrse Hamilton, son, Minister Timothy Mitchell, granddaughter Chaniell Nevills, twin grandsons, Taylor and Tyler Hill, great grandchildren, Tamea Mitchell, Timmy Mitchell Jr., Truth Mitchell, Peyton Acker, Karl Acker III and Kyrie Hill. Extended family, son’s Lowell Jackson Jr., Cecil Pernell Jackson, Christopher Jackson and Mark Jackson. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
