William Michael Patterson

William M. Patterson was born in Biloxi, Mississippi on March 13, 1957 to David Patterson Sr. and Annie Lee Patterson. He was one of eight children.

William M. Patterson was well known as "Man" and later went by his middle name, Michael. Michael went to Blount High School in Alabama. He came to Portland, Oregon in 1976. He worked as a cook at The Marriott, Ruth Ashbrook Bakery, as well as many other jobs throughout his life.

Michael was a loving father of four children: Michael Hines-Patterson, Aaleyah Patterson, William Patterson Jr., and Karla Patterson. He also was an amazing grandfather to his grandson, Deandre King Patterson. Michael was a dedicated family man. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his children and grandson. He spoke with his children and grandchildren daily and imparted attitude along with wisdom.

In 2007, Michael accepted the Lord as his savior and went on to say “under any circumstances regardless of where I wind up in life, I will serve him forever.” Michael was an active member of Kings Temple Christian Church and gladly served on the usher board and sang in the choir. He enjoyed going to Bible study and Sunday school and went faithfully.

When Michael was not creating memories with his family or serving at his church, you could find him on the riverbanks fishing because that was his favorite hobby. He enjoyed being near the water.

Michael was known for his sense of humor, his can-do spirit, and his hardworking approach to life. Michael was known for being the life of the party and always wanting to bring people together to be in community.

This boisterous, rambunctious, and wonderful father and grandfather went home to be with the lord on the morning of September 20, 2020. He was a man loved and cherished by all. He will be dearly missed and remembered joyously.

His memories live on through his surviving siblings: Joan Salter, Lionel Patterson, Patricia Smith, Debra Robinson, Larry Hardy, Willie “J.R.” Hardy, Steve Hardy, Frank Patterson; and a host of nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David Patterson Jr.
