Wilbert Andrews Sr. Obituary

Wilbert Kelley Andrews was the first born of twin boys on July 30th, 1929, in Saginaw Michigan. He was born to parents Telesmar and Ruby Andrews.

In 1940, at the age of 11, Wilbert and his father along with two of his brothers, William and TJ moved to Oregon for work, leaving behind siblings and their mother. The three brothers, and their father the Deacon migrated to pave the way for the whole family to move to the Pacific NW. They ultimately landed in the historic Vanport neighborhood.

In the early 1950 the remaining family members joined them in Portland. They were passionately involved in The Church of The Living God. As such Deacon and the Andrews family along with Bishop A.B Williams started the first Church of The Living God P.G.T in Portland, Oregon. Wilbert remained an active member until his death.

Wilbert joined the Army in 1951 and subsequently served in the Korean War.  In 1954 as Wilbert’s military service was drawing to a close, he met Georgia Carney. Their love led to them marrying and welcoming their first child, Wilbert Andrews Jr. Their marriage of nearly 20 years ended and in the early 1970’s Wilbert met and married Yvonne Soles. Their marriage continued until her untimely passing in 2008.

Aside from his family, Wilbert had an extreme love for cars, specifically Cadillacs. He was known for keeping his landscaping neat and in order and was inflectionally known as the Cadillac Man. In addition to his love for Cadillac’s he had an affinity for riding bicycles.

Preceding him in death were parents, Telesmar & Ruby Andrews. Tragically, Wilbert suffered the untimely deaths of his children Wilbert, Patricia, & Ricky Andrews.  Also preceding him in death were siblings: William, Telesmar, Vivian Williams, Robert, David, John, and Donald Andrews.

He leaves to celebrate his life children: Brenda, Beverly (DeWeese), Karla, Annette, Dana, Christopher, Ronna, LaRue, Wendla, & Dana L Andrews. Additionally, siblings: Ruby Stewart, Rosie Mitchell, Esther Pickett, Michael, Greg, & Sharone Gram, and Paul Payton. Wilbert was blessed to have 28 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
