In Loving Memory of Wanda Maria Covington
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother Wanda Covington, who departed this life on March 13, 2025, at the age of 72. She was born on September 29, 1952, in Mayhem, West Virginia, to Lillian (Burl) Young.
Wanda grew up in Mayhem, West Virginia, before moving to New Albany, Indiana, where her mother, Lillian , married her adoptive father, James Young. In the early 1970s, she relocated to Portland, Oregon, where she met Mancus Rouse at Job Corps and had three children with him. On March 17, 1982, she married James Covington, with whom she shared 31 beautiful years of marriage until his passing on August 20, 2013.
Wanda was a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, known for her kindness, humor, and generosity. She touched many lives through her work as a Certified Nursing Assistant and daycare provider, as well as through her deep faith in God.
She is survived by her two daughters, Monica and Millshane Rouse; her grandchildren Bobby, Alana, and Marcus Rudolph, her sisters, Diedra Young and Dorothy Jackson; her brothers, Curtis and Eric Young; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Covington; her son, Marcus R. Rouse; her siblings, Wilma Young Orndorff, Agnes Young Booker, and James "BoBo" Young, and her parents, James Young and Lillian Young.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 12:30 PM at Willamette National Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of Wanda Covington’s life.
Wanda will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
