Vonnette Martin-Phillips was born on May 18, 1960, to Nathaniel G. Martin and Betty J. Martin. Vonnette was 7th out of 9 children. She attended Humboldt Elementary School, Kellogg Middle School and Franklin High School. She also attended Portland Community College. Vonnette had one son Nathaniel G. Martin in 1977 and 5 grandchildren whom she loved.
Vonnette was full of life and was very generous. Vonnette loved being around her family. Vonnette made friends wherever she went. Vonnette loved going to the Dollar Store and her favorite restaurant was Red Lobster.
Vonnette married Maurice D. Phillips in March 2000.
Vonnette enjoyed listening to music, reading and watching True Crime shows. If you were over there visiting with her, she would tell the end of it if you did not warn her you haven’t seen it before.
Vonnette taught herself how to knit when she was a young adult.
Preceded in her death was her parents Nathaniel and Betty Martin. Brother, Paul P. Johnson. Sisters: Maria Lockett, Elaine Higgins, Diana Vann, Beverly Harvey and Cathy Hollins. Brothers- in –law: Milton Lockett, Felix Higgins, Cleodis Vann. Niece: Tamara Best and Nephew: Randy J. Patterson Jr.
Vonnette is survived by her son, Nathaniel G. Martin, Grandchildren (Taylor Wheeler, Solana, Nathaniel, Sincere and Micaiah Martin. Brother: Donald Johnson (Dianne). Sister: Carol Battles (Eric), Brother-in-law: Robert
Harvey and a host of Nephews and Nieces and extended family and friends.
