Victoria Collins Obituary

Victoria Renee Collins, known as Vicki to family and close friends was born on November 1st, 1979 to loving parents: Eddie Collins Jr. and DeEtta Morris-Collins.

Vicki first attended Irvington Elementary School, then went on to Fernwood Middle School and Benson High School where she graduated in 1997.  She continued pursuing her education at Oregon State University majoring in Sociology.  Curious and eager to learn, this intelligent woman received a bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees.  Her parents instilled the importance of education into her.

From the day she was born, Victoria’s loving smile and kind spirit warmed her parents’ hearts.  As a baby she would be in her crib and her mom would give her a glass bottle of milk to fall asleep and she would always throw it and break it.  She would take a swig, toss it, watch it break and do it repeatedly.  One day after her mom realized what she was doing, she filled a plastic bottle instead and Vicki took her swig and tossed it.  When she didn’t hear the bottle break, she raised up in surprise and her mom said, “got you” and Vicki started laughing.  This wasn’t the only time she showed her mischievous side.  One day Brian had climbed in the bed with her and she decided that she would sprinkle baby powder all over his head and then sprinkled it all over herself and the floor, grinning along the way.

At a very young age her parents could already see her nurturing side.  One day at the carnival she lost her Mickey Mouse doll that she carried with her everywhere.  She cried and cried and was devastated and so were her parents’ (smile).  They went to Toys R US and bought another one and tricked her into thinking it was the one she had lost.  Her mom said, “Look Vicki here’s Mickey.” And she was so happy.  Then she took him in her arms and said, “What are you doing in this store? You need to come home with me.”

Victoria was a strong independent woman who dedicated her life to helping serve others in various places.  She was a proud member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. where she attended all conventions and was well known and beloved in the Las Vegas Alumni Chapter.  She taught Pre-K and Kindergarten at Irvington Elementary School, trained and worked at King Elementary School, was a member of the State Teachers Core, and worked at the State of Oregon Childcare Program.  Whatever it was Vicki put her mind to, she did it and did it well.  Victoria loved life and enjoyed teaching and spending time with her friends and family.  She was passionate, dedicated and loyal.  What we loved the most about her is the love she had and always showed to others.  The same love that is still here and continues to embrace us all.  Her beautiful smile, her infectious laugh, her sense of humor, her sweet, kind and loving spirit will be forever in our hearts.
