Vickie Matthews Obituary

Vickie Ford Matthews was born March 17, 1953, to the union of Bessie and Robert Ford Sr. of Portland, OR. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bessie and Robert Ford Sr, sons Lavelle, and Herbert Matthews, sisters: Donna Givens, and Rhonda Ford, brothers; Michael Ford, Joesph Callaway, and Robert E. Ford, Mother Belgrave and many aunts, one Uncle. Vickie attended Boise Elementary School and Jefferson High School in Portland, Oregon. Vickie was known for her caring and compassionate heart. She would give to anyone in need. Whenever you saw her; she would smile which lit up the room. She worked at Olan Mills Studio and Proline Beauty Salon in Portland Oregon. You could always find Vickie among family. Family was the light of her life. Her brother She and her brother Robert Perry would have coffee every morning. Vickie and her friends that lived in her apartment building would talk, and check on each other daily, she was so loved by them. Vickie lived in the Milwaukie area for over 15 years where she made a lasting impact. She loved to fish, croppies were her favorite. Vickie was our bright light. She was disciplined, understanding. She was our moral compass. Vickie loved to travel. Anywhere the car was going, she was ready. She would travel to California and Texas to visit family members. When traveling to family homes she would say “Help with this, go provide that, assist with those.” She taught us to give and share and help each other. She stayed in the kitchen during holidays and ensured holidays were decent and in order. Vickie blessed us with so much love and was graceful, always putting things in order. Vickie's favorite aunt is Margret. She loved gospel music, playing cards, and jazz concerts. Vickie was a proud member of Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church in Portland, Oregon under the leadership of Pastor J.W. Hennessee. She remained a faithful member until God brought her home. Vickie leaves to cherish her memories Brothers: Robert Perry (Kim) and Robert Anthony Ford (Bobbie), Sisters; Lavell Brown, Tracy Elvidge, (Daniel), and Mattie Ford, and sister cousin Patricia Ford, Grandchildren; Asia, Shalin, Lavell Kenneth, Chelsy, Jareel, Jared, and Jalen of Houston TX. Special Friend Evelyn Williams of New Orleans. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
