Vernal Webster Obituary

Vernal “Vern” Webster was born June 15, 1940, to U.L. and Viola Webster in Atlanta, Texas. He passed from this earth on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026.

Vernal had 11 siblings.  He was number 7.  He loved his family very much and enjoyed hunting with his father.  He was an emotional, sensitive soul who loved to spoil his mother, beginning at a young age on into adulthood. Vernal worked in the fields from a young age, harvesting various crops.

Vern met Mary Ann McSwain in Portland, Oregon at Williams Temple where they were wed in 1961.  He joined the US Air Force in 1963 and worked for 20 years. Together, they created a family to include their 4 daughters in their lives and love.

The years in the military took the blossoming family to various bases from Portland, OR to Sacramento, CA, Aguadilla, Puerto Rico and Las Vegas, Nevada.  He also had separate tours of duty in Thailand and Korea before returning to Portland when he retired in 1983. Not being one to sit idly for long, Vern also held positions at Red Lion Inn, Horizon Air and worked another 20 years for the Portland Air National Guard. He was also an avid Melaleuca distributor.

Family outings included fishing trips and barbecuing at the park or in the backyard. He also enjoyed restoring Corvair cars and watching sports--all of them.  A love surpassed only by his love and tenderness for his family and friends.  Vern was a caring and dedicated family man as well as a good listener with a kind heart.  He had such an easy smile and warm personality, he made friends wherever he went. He was a faithful member of Emmanuel Church for many years. He will be missed by many.

Vern is survived by his four daughters, LaVerna Beasley (Coleman), Kimberly Webster, Traci Webster and Cynthia Webster; his grandchildren Coleman II, Ilise, Sydney and Jovari Beasley, and Nathan and Vinton Webster.  He leaves behind his siblings, Elgene, Wilkie, Gwendolyn, Ocie, Josie, and Odessa to be with the love of his life, Mary, who preceded him in death.

His hugs and smile will be sorely missed.
