Tyrone Keith Sterling was born on June 20, 1979 to Maggie L. Sterling and Sydney W. Grant III in Phoenix, Arizona. He was the eldest of 6 children from the combined marriage between Maggie and Darryl Phelps.
Tyrone attended Portsmouth Middle School, Thomas Jefferson High School, and The Tech Center. While in high school Tyrone worked at the Portland Boys & Girls Club and McDonalds. After graduation, he worked for years at Helensview School on their kitchen staff. Recently Tyrone worked for Portland State University and Ross at the Lloyd Center.
Tyrone accepted the Lord at a very young age and was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church for over 30 years! He served as an usher, a teacher's aid for bible study/children's church, and sang in the youth and young adult choirs (or at least he tried! Haha!). Within his lifetime Tyrone was a member of Club Impact where he was always the life of the party. He was an excellent dancer and always had a smile to share. His favorite celebrity was Will Smith and he loved old school music. If you knew Tyrone, he would call you and talk to you until your phone died. Tyrone genuinely loved all people.
He is survived by his parents, Maggie and Darryl Phelps; five siblings, Macio (Ashley) Sterling, Davasate (Tylia) Phelps, LaShawn Phillips-Phelps, Lonisha (Matt) Burton-Peters, Asya (Keon) Howard; two grandmothers, Dorothy Casey of Portland and Juanita Grant of Phonenix; four aunts and six uncles, Senora (Stanley) Williams, April (Ernest) White, Roger Sterling, Michael A. Phelps, Larry (Teresa) Casey, and Ray (Dianne) Sterling; his faithful companion, (his dog) Jordan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that will miss him dearly.
