Trenton Petry Obituary

Our dearest and beloved baby boy Trenton Nickolaus Petry (named by his mother) died on June 22, 2017, in Portland Oregon at Randall Children's hospital at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.

Trenton was born on May 17, 2017, at Oregon Health Science University. He came into the world weighing 6lbs. 12 oz. and 19ins. long. He was a handsome boy with plenty of dark brown hair and with beautiful light brown skin. His birth, his being, was pure happiness and joy.

His mother, Chantel Petry loved him so much, knowing she was not able to take care of him-gave that responsibility to her dad, Trenton's grandfather Reginald (Carlos) Petry. She knew Trenton would get the best care possible remaining with his loving family.

Trenton's life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by him understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. His pure innocence and love only expressed by a baby's knowing that when he cried, he always knew someone, loving, would come to him with care and love. The moment he knew love was there his crying would turn to soft coos and gentle baby sounds. He knew he was dearly loved. That remembrance will live with us forever in our hearts and souls.

Trenton left a legacy unexpected because of his short earthly life. He left us with a unique understanding of compassion. He gave an awareness to understanding what it truly means to forgive and not allow guilt to define anyone's last moments. He has been a teacher beyond what words can fully express. He honored us with reminding us of the critical importance family and community are to our lives. His many intermittent smiles and his grasping of his strong fingers to yours and the close warm snuggles will be greatly missed. Our shared kisses will last forever. With Trenton's passing we remind others that his life is one to be celebrated. He touched us with memories and love to last throughout eternity-resting in the arms of Jesus.

Trenton is survived by his loving mom, Chantel Petry, (father not known), his brother Sean Petry Miller, his maternal grandparents Reginald (Carlos) Petry and Melody Duncan, his aunts Mytoka Petry and Brittney Gregory, his uncle Charles Petry, cousins Jordyn, Payton, Katie, Nikko and Kaliyah all living in Portland Oregon and the many loving extended family throughout the United States.

Trenton's family wishes to express our thankfulness to the doctors and nurses at Doernbecher Children's hospital for the meticulous care they gave preceding Trenton's passing. The overwhelming gratitude to the immense efforts by the doctors and nurses at Randall Children's hospital to save Trenton's life. To the first responders from the Portland Fire and Rescue, we thank deeply for all their tireless efforts in Trenton's behalf. A very special "thank you!" to Chaplain David at Emanuel Medical Center, for his authentic compassion, his presence and love at a time of deep grief and sorrow. He was truly sent by God. Chaplain Puanani Lalakea at Portland's Veteran's Medical Center has my sincere admiration for her much-needed and effective counsel during this difficult time. She gave guidance that strengthened by soul and an understanding of how to navigate the intense and diverse emotions connected to grief and the lasting joy that exists because of Trenton.
