Our beloved oldest sister, Shirley, was born January 18, 1951 in England, Arkansas, from the union of Joann and Freddie Lee Shavers. She succumbed to stage 4 brain cancer on July 13, 2021 in Portland, Oregon.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Harris, her mother, Joann (Rollins) and father, Freddie Lee Shavers as well as her grandmother, Georgiana Gaylord.
Shirley grew up in Oakland until the age of 17, then moved with the rest of the family to Portland in 1969. Shirley attended Job Corp in Noses Lake, Washington where she studied Arts and Design.
Shirley was an aunt, great-aunt and a great-great aunt to many nieces and nephews. Shirley also loved playing with her dog, “Rocky”. They would talk and cuddle and she enjoyed when he would sleep at the foot of her bed. He was one of her many protectors.
Shirley had a great sense of humor and enjoyed meeting people and talking it up; joking with family and strangers alike. She enjoyed going to spend time with her Grandma Georgie in Clear Lake and on Sauvie’s Island, camping, fishing, gardening, and cooking. She also enjoyed coloring and drawing when she had a chance and going for drives around the local area.
Shirley is survived by her siblings, Arthur (Cynthia), Diane (Woodrow), Ricky (Andrea), Carla, Debbbie, Tina (David) and Olivette (Steffon “Jaki”); Essie, Charles, Minnie, Linda, Donna, Sylvester (Baby), as well as a host of family and friends.
Siblings to precede her in death: Larry, Kenny and Alvin of England, Arkansas.
Shirley’s laughter and smile will be truly missed by her friends and family.
