Shirley Ann Payton was born April 10, 1953, at Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon to the union of Arleta and Raymond Payton. Shirley was the youngest of two children, and her older brother was named Raymond Payton. She was raised in the North Portland area and attended Jefferson High School. After graduating, she attended Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon where she studied business.
Following her studies, Shirley became a mother to her only child, Arleta Payton. She then became a proud employee of Portland Public Schools where she worked as a custodian for 15+ years before she retired. Following her retirement, she enjoyed being a caretaker to her three grandchildren.
Shirley enjoyed playing softball, taking trips to the beach, visiting with her longtime friends, going to the casino, playing darts, listening to her favorite artist Patti LaBelle, and putting together puzzles in her downtime.
Shirley is going to be missed by so many people. She was a beautiful soul that touched the lives of everyone she encountered. We will forever be grateful to God for all the memories we have made with her during this lifetime.
Shirley is preceded in death by her mother, Arleta; father, Raymond; and brother, Raymond. Shirley leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Arleta; granddaughters, Ronisha and SheQouya; grandson, Damen; great-grandchildren, Alijah, Seven, Langston, Lailah, Darrin, Damari, Ocean, and an unborn baby girl.
