Ruth Mitchell was born on February 4, 1915 in Okolona, Mississippi. She was the seventh child to Janie and John Mitchell. Her family moved to Jackson, Tennessee where she grew up and received her education at A.R. Grade and High school.
Being from a religious family, Ruth accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Berean Baptist Church in Jackson, Tennessee.
In 1944, Ruth moved to Portland, Oregon. She first worked in the ship yards, and later worked in a women's dress shop, Zukons - in the Lloyd Center - until her retirement in 1985.
Ruth joined Mt. Olivet Baptist Church under the late Reverend J.J. Clow. Always passionate about church and eager to be involved, Ruth served as an usher for many years, Fellowship Circle, and served in the Oasis Ministry.
Proceeding her in death were her three brothers and three sisters; her son-in-law, Kenneth Brown Sr; grandson, Kenneth Brown Jr; as well as her great grandson, Baby Kenny III.
Ruth leaves to mourn her daughter, Adrienne Brown; granddaughters, Benita Brown and Alethea Jennings (Marvin); eleven great grandchildren, twenty-six great great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
