Rometta Tyler Obituary

Rometta “Roe” was born on March 3, 1935 in Bosco, Louisiana; the first of six children to John and Orell Robinson.

After moving with her family to Portland in 1946, Rometta attended Irvington elementary and graduated from Grant High School.  She gave her life to the Lord at an early age and was a life-long member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church.

Family meant the world to her.  She was devoted to her children Harold “Hal”, Mark and Kimberly.  They were her pride and joy. As the matriarch of the Robinson clan, she was an avid communicator; she loved to connect with family on Facebook sharing cherished photos, birthday greetings, uplifting messages and delicious recipes.

In 1978, she married the love of her life, Robert Tyler. Together they built a loving home and watched as their extended family blossomed, like her renowned flower garden, to include 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.  They remained faithfully committed until Robert’s passing in 2007.

Holiday and birthday celebrations were a true feast because Rometta loved to cook! She created, collected and perfected recipes that have been shared countless times with the entire family; her peanut brittle is legendary!

Nobody enjoyed a road-trip like Rometta.  She would lovingly recount the many adventures and fun times she had driving across the country with her family.

Rometta was our mother, our sister, our aunt, our cousin, our grandmother, our great-grandmother and our friend. Her strength and courage were a testament to her faith and love of the Lord. She will forever be remembered for her love of the Word, especially Philippians 4:6, her radiant smile, generous heart, impeccable style, culinary skills and of course those beautifully manicured red finger nails!

Preceding Rometta in death are her parents, John and Orell Robinson, her ‘second set of parents’ Phillip and Odalee Robinson, brother Harold Robinson, sister Garnett Croone, her devoted husband Robert Tyler, granddaughter Audra Worthington and beloved son Harold “Hal” Johnson.  Rometta is survived by her loving son Mark Johnson and daughter Kimberly (Donald) Johnson, brothers Manfred (Genevieve) Robinson, Lemuel (Shirley) Robinson, sister Johnetta Redditt, grandchildren Aaron Johnson, Colby Johnson, Tawny Worthington,  Andre Jemison, Sean (Sandy) Estes, Donald Johnson, Jr., Kiara Johnson, Jordan  (Pam) Johnson, Barron Johnson, Spencer (Sydnee) Johnson, great-grandchildren Siara Estes, Amayiah Johnson, Alayiah Johnson, Giselle Johnson, Gianni Johnson and a host of cousins, nieces and nephew.
