Leon Brewer Jr. was born on April 2, 1937 in Texarkana, TX to Leon Sr. and Lucile Brewer. He graduated from Macedonia High School in 1954 and Life Bible College in 1976.
He left the State of Texas and moved to the State of California. He was drafted into the Army and was stationed at Fort Lewis in the State of Washington. While in Washington State, Leon was a member of Emmanuel Temple COGIC and at age 25 he served as the Youth Pastor under the leadership of the Late Bishop R.E. Altheimer.
After returning to the State of California, Leon met Erma J. Flowers whom he married on September 2, 1961. From this union they had 4 children, 3 daughters and 1 son.
Leon was employed with the City of Los Angeles and Pastored the New Testament COGIC in Los Angeles, CA for several years. During this time, Leon still had the heart of Evangelism and would travel all over the United States running revivals and preaching the Gospel.
In the early 70’s, Leon ran several revivals in the Portland area for Pastors, the late Supt. R. Thomas (St. Luke COGIC) and then later the late Elder E.W. Rand (Williams Temple COGIC) just to name a few. During this time, he was conducting the Annual Summer Crusade and later the Thanksgiving Crusade.
Leon moved his family to Portland, OR in 1976, where he attended the Williams Temple COGIC until he was called to pastor the New Testament Church and pastored until his death. He was employed for many years with the Portland Federal Progress House directed by the late Bishop Leo C. Brown while still pastoring until this branch was closed.
He still continued to conduct the Thanksgiving Crusade until 2019 on the 40th year Anniversary.
Leon was well known in the Grand Ole Church of God in Christ and served as Minister, Elder, Youth Pastor, Pastor, Superintendent and Administrative Asst.
Leon was a Gentle Giant, Warrior of the Gospel, a Spiritual Father, a Wonderful Pastor, a Loyal Friend and Amazing Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Cousin who loved the Lord, his family, his church family to the utmost.
Leon is preceded in death by his wife Erma J. Brewer, parents Leon Sr. and Lucile Brewer and his oldest brother Eugene (Buck) Brewer.
Leon leaves to cherish his memory, his children: Sondra Mercadal (Walter), Leon Brewer III, Paula Brewer and Trina Sewell (Carlos). 6 grandchildren: Treona Jones, Andre Brewer, Leon Brewer IV, Aliyia Brewer, Dreyvon Stephens and Diamond Key and 3 great grandchildren.
2 goddaughters: Debra Washington and Karah Archie (Chancellor), 2 sisters: Mother Ellean Banks and Missionary Pearlie Chatman and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
