Raymond Paschal Obituary

One Sunny day, on Sunday September 16, 1956. A bundle of joy was born to Sylvester Sr. and Frankie Lee Paschal in Portland, Oregon. The proud parents came home from the hospital holding a baby boy, as the fifth child of four siblings. Everyone was anxious to see who they named Raymond Edward Paschal. All the siblings peeked and smiled. Raymond would occasionally smile. He grew up as a happy child smiling, laughing, and was home-schooled at pre-toddler age by his sister Rockie Paschal, who was a firm disciplinary teacher and made him sit down and learn what she was teaching. Home schooling put him on the road to more education.

Raymond entered Portland public school at Boise Elementary. His teacher would let us know when we came to pick him up that he was a very smart child. He went on and graduated from Lincoln High School, and continued furthering his education graduating from Computer Career Institute in Portland, Oregon.

Raymond was called Rayne by his dad, and Raymo by his mom. His nieces and nephews called him Uncle Rayne or Unc and he was given the nickname "Say Ray" by his late cousin Tommy Brown. Raymond would prepare yearly income taxes for his family and friends. He would always listen when you had a problem or concern, and would understand and say "you are going through the going through". His most favorite sayings was "I'm Cool" and "handle your business.

Raymond loved watching the Young and the Restless, and discussing its day to day drama, working crossword puzzles sitting on the front Porch in conversation with the neighbors, and waving at the passerby's that knew him shouting back the neighborhood call. He also enjoyed cooking several meals and shared with those who loved his cooking. He was part of the RF Paschal family gathering committee for many years. consulting with the next generation who has taken on the responsibility. He always brought his famous green salad and meatballs to the gathering,

Raymond was a member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Portland, Oregon. Elected as President in 2010 of Usher Ministry #2. He helped plan several usher board Annual Days, with the junior ushers, processioning in on Kirk Franklin hit "Stomp", he always loved to be upbeat. Also, attending other Churches Usher Annual Day, and was asked to speak at another churches usher annual day. He knew how to "cut" the corners with style when ushering like his two mentors the late Mr. Stokes and Mr. Woods.

Raymond loved wearing his favorite cologne and jewelry. He also was inspired by his late grandfather in wearing Stacy Adams shoes. BOTTOM LINE he loved to be as he referred to it "suited and booted"

Raymond accepted a job on October 11, 1989 with the American Red Cross of the Pacific Northwest  Regional Blood Services in Portland, Oregon. He held several positions as Blood Donor scheduler, Data Entry, Donor Health REP and Mobile Scheduler. Each position showcased his skills with excellent customer service scheduling in the community to give the gift of life. Schedulers were held to a 2.5 donor recruitment rate per hour. He surpassed the required rate in averaging 3.5-4.0 per hour. While interacting with various departments and Territory Reps, scheduling blood drives throughout Oregon and Washington. He assisted with Blood donors, test results, and performing second review on reports with the Food and Drug Association and annual audits inspection. He was pictured on the front page of the Skanner Newspaper at the Martin Luther King Jr. breakfast in 2012, advertising the importance of giving blood He was an excellent worker in the life saving of Blood Banking for the American Red Cross. He enjoyed working with his co-workers Loyce McDonald and Charletta Dizer-Malone who always supported him “through the going through'“.
