Peggy M. (Bradley) Washington

Peggy Marie (Bradley) Washington was born to the union of Mr. Charles E. and Mrs. Liza M. Bradley in Portland, Oregon. She was born on Tuesday, July 3, 1951 which was a good day to be born with no rain in the forecast, and a pleasant temperature of 64 F.

Peggy attended several elementary schools including: Holladay, Irvington and Boise Elliot. She continued her education at Grant High but graduated as a proud DEMO, from Jefferson High School.

More than 49 years ago, Peggy met and fell in love with the very handsome Roy Washington, and one day when the timing was right Roy asked Peggy to marry him, and she blushingly said, "I Do”. From their union three beautiful daughters were born: Rashonda S. Washington, Royauna S. Shareef, and Shatyra U. Washington.

Peggy was a very industrious woman, working diligently for many years. She worked for Purdy Brush Company and at Portland Development Commission for over 30 years.

Her life was changed when she made a commitment to serve the Lord with all of her heart, body and soul, that was over 25 years ago. She was a diligent worker in the church and whenever she saw a need she was quick to respond. She loved God and his people. She was a true Missionary at heart, ministering on every level. She was a member in good standing at Power House Church of God In Christ, under the leadership of Pastor Percy Mullen. Cooking was one passion that she enjoyed doing, and cooking for the church was her delight.

When one thinks of Peggy you can't help but think of her being a very classy woman who loved to dress up, sharp from head to toe. And we can't fail to mention her hair. It was always together, whipped and on point. And then there was her famous pot of spaghetti and her mouth watering pound cakes. If you didn’t get a chance to try them, you missed out on a treat!

Peggy loved children and showed it by the tender love she gave to over 100 foster kids. She followed in her mother's footsteps by being a parent to many children in the community and neighborhood. This love was also shared with her siblings, nieces and nephews. You could stop by anytime day or night and get a hot meal, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner. There was always something to eat.

One of the things that makes her daughters and some of the children she cared for laugh about, was coming home from school and finding a neighbor in one of their nice outfits that they still wanted. They would tell her that was their outfit and she would reply by saying, “Girl, you don't even wear that outfit anymore, or haven't in a long time." So if it wasn't on your back it just might be on someone else’s.

Peggy was an amazing as well as a Woman of God, and even as she was transitioning to her heavenly home, she was ministering to everyone that stood at her bedside. She didn't have to speak. It was the presence of peace that she spoke through her silence...I believe Peggy was saying to all of us, no need to worry about me, I'm at peace with God. And It Was So, And So It Was!

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Bradley, sister, JoAnn Bradley-Evers, brother, Charles E. Bradley Jr., nephew, DeAndre M. Bradley and great nephew, Durante Allen.

Leaving to cherish her memories and love are: her loving husband, Roy Lee Washington, her daughters, Rashonda Washington, Royuana Shareef (Razzaaq) and Shatrya Washington; Sisters: Erma Lindley, Charlene Bradley, Fayette Norman (Johnathan), Patricia Cain (Ell Sr.), Gwen Dent, Sharon Peters, and Wendy Bradley. Brothers: Mark Bradley (Jean), Dennis Bradley (Lauren) Adopted Daughters: Leah Bell, Monte Jo Hannah, and India Hall. Goddaughter: Delana Foster-Gaston, Godmother: Mother McGee.

Grandchildren: Jaquan T. Warren, Abdul-Razzaaq Shareef III, and Ishmail Roy Shareef. 31 nieces and nephews, 44 great nieces and nephews and 7 great -great nephews. A host of cousins, aunts and uncles and some very close friends.

We all loved Peggy dearly, however; the Lord loved her best. Today she is at rest.
