Orlando Vance Sr. Obituary

Orlando Vance Sr., 76, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on the night of December 7th, 2024.Orlando was born at Emanuel Hospital on November 11th 1948 in Portland, Oregon to Milton Quinn Vance, Sr. and Sarah Bernice Vance. He grew up with his siblings Rudolph Mylar, Dolores Johnson, Milton Vance, Theresa Vance, Weldon Vance and Michael Vance in NE Portland near Vancouver and Going Street. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1966.

After high school, he completed culinary courses at Portland Community College, which would go on to foster his love of cooking for the rest of his life.  He lived on the corner of 16th & Going Street for decades and became a fixture and a “Father” of the neighborhood, especially to the youth in the community who looked up to him as a father figure, many of which, even up to his passing.
Professionally, he was a counselor for at risk youth, known for his passion for sports, especially the Raiders and Muhammad Ali. As an adult, he was stern and opinionated, but always had a soft heart, especially for the kids. His love for music, sports, and video games seemed to be only surpassed by his love for a good deal. His love for a good deal was actually only surpassed by his love for family and friends. He met the love of his life Annie Clay-Vance as a child at First AME Zion, but reconnected with her in 1981 and remained companions until their marriage on April 14th 2004.

He is survived by his devoted and beloved wife of 21 loving years, Annie Clay-Vance, his children, Orlando Vance Jr., Rolanda Vance-Simmons, Sherlonda Vance, Deminica Vance-Wagner, Alejandro Vance, Rianna Coleman, DuJuan Vance, step daughter Latoya Davenport, Step-son Charles Johnson Jr., daughter-in-law Victoria Mengloi-Vance, son-in-law, Miguel Wagner, as well as his grandchildren, Sarah, Orlando III, Dominique, Briana, Frederick, Alejandro Jr, Amber, Andre, Demarcus, Alansa, Alexandrea, Alijah, Alex, Jeremiah, Amiyah, Kamya, Kyonah, Avian, Alexis, Shantelle, Shamiyah, Kamari, Kisean, Jaylen, and Amare. He is also survived by his remaining siblings Dolores, Milton, Theresa, Weldon, Michael and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, in laws, and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his twin daughter Yolanda Vance, his parents Milton Quinn Vance Sr., and Sarah Bernice Vance, as well as his brother Rudolph Mylar. Orlando had a deep passion for health & fitness. This passion led him to found the Albina Quick Silver Striders walking group. The group was open to all, but mainly consisted of some of his longtime friends, who would get
together and walk at the Fernhill track and park several times a week to promote fitness among those he loved. Orlando will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his spirit, advice, and love will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
