Orenton Hill Jr. Obituary

Orenton Banny Hill Jr. was born December 9, 1963 in Portland, Oregon to his parents Mr. Orenton B. Hill Sr. and Patricia Hill. He attended Albina Head Start, Irvington Elementary, Holiday and Mt. Tabor Middle School, Washington Monroe High School and finished at David Douglas High School. At an early age Orenton learned how to fish, a trait passed to him from his father, OB.

At an early age he developed a love for Sports, he began playing Basketball, Baseball as well as Pop Warner Football. During High school he played for the football team as a wide receiver and quarterback at WAMO. Following high school he attended Oregon State University, with Pastor Wendel Robinson where they developed a close personal friendship. After leaving Oregon State, he attended Portland State University, and Portland Community College.

His first job was working as a security officer at Woolsworth department store located in the Lloyd Center Mall. While working for Woolsworth, they noticed his leadership skills, critical thinking ability, organizational skills and of course his good communication skills in the work or public environment and his genuinely warm personality, He was offered an opportunity to move to Hawaii to become head of security but declined to stay with his family.

He then went on into the military where he exhibited his leadership skills as a cadence caller. Orenton spent a brief time in the U.S Airforce training to be a pilot at Lacklan Airforce base in San Antonio, Texas; racism in the military deterred him to pursue other opportunities. Once Orenton returned home from his short military stay, he began to work in the community with his dad, who had formed a construction company, N.T.I. Contractors Inc. He supported his father for several years as a foreman and project manager and sometimes a flagger.  One of the sites was the Rose Garden and the Tri-met Max Line. Later he was offered a job as a salesman at a car dealership, and he worked within that industry for over 15 years. He rose up the ranks from Assistant Manager to the General Manager of the dealership. He thoroughly enjoyed helping people to get into the car of their choice. His team was top in monthly sales several times within the year.

Orenton was a natural entertainer, at an early age he was a talent show winner which sparked his interest in the entertainment industry. He launched his music career in the 80s as a lead singer for Cover Boy, an R & B group that performed around the Northwest.  He also was lead singer in Vivid and Ocean 503. His gift of love for music was also passed down to his children.  He was/is immensely proud of his four children. He was a good father, and also husband to Jacqueline Hill for 22 years. Always there for his children, he assisted them in their grade school homework, baseball, basketball, track, soccer and other activities. He was hands on, always there.

Those that Orenton leaves to cherish his most precious memories are his father, Orenton Banny Hill Sr.; his mother, Patricia Ann Hill; his children, Jaquelin Harris-Hill, Orenton Banny Hill-Wingate, Jiannah Havi Patrice Hill, Estellah Deann Hill; and his granddaughter, Alinnah Latrice Hill-Young; his siblings, Angela Faye Hill, James Patrick Hill Sr. , Antonia Evelyn Hill, and Aojah Z.L. Hill, in addition to aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
