Michael “Mike” Damone Kent Sr. was born October 25, 1961 to his loving mother Thelma Kent in Monroe, Louisiana. In 1964 his mother decided to relocate him and his two sisters to Portland, Oregon where he lived for the remainder of his life.
Growing up he enjoyed playing sports. In baseball he played center field once throwing the ball from the outfield to home plate getting an out. He excelled at basketball, and taught his sons and nephews how to hoop. He was also well known for shooting a good game of pool. He loved cars (especially Cadillacs), and was passionate about working on them. He attended several elementary schools in Portland, and John Adams high school.
Mike was always someone to depend on for anything that needed to be done for his family and friends. He was a kind loving brother, devoted father, and grandfather. He also served as a father figure to his nieces and nephews. With his great memory, he grew a bond with his nieces and nephews through his storytelling and mannerisms having everybody laughing.
He was very active in the community with working through ‘Play Grow Learn’ and ‘Good n the Hood’. Another job he worked at was Disadvantaged Veterans. Michael was the devoted caretaker of his grandfather Walter Kent in the final years of Walter’s life.
After a brief illness Michael passed away on the evening of March 5, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Fannie B. Kent and Walter Kent, mother Thelma Kent Owens and step-father Louis Owens, and son Isaiah Demetrius Kent.
