Mattie Jean Pierce

Our Precious Mother Mattie Jean Carroll Dedmon Pierce gained her wings in her 86th season on January 5, 2022, in Vancouver, WA. Her journey began on October 15th, 1935, in Malvern, Arkansas when she was born the baby girl of James (Jim) and Mary Louella Nelson Carroll. They completed their journey before her as well as her siblings Burl Lee Carroll, Paul Thomas Carroll, Vance D. Carroll, Eddie V Carroll, Katie Mae Carroll Davis and Beatrice Carroll Terry. 

Mattie Jean attended Tuggle Elementary and A. A. Wilson High Schools in Malvern, Arkansas. Mattie professed a hope in Christ at an early age at The Mother Church of God in Christ. Later in years she united with the East End Church of God in Christ AKA Calvary Church of God in Christ under the Leadership of the late Rev. J.W. Harrison. In the late eighties Mattie joined First Missionary Baptist Church Rockport under the Leadership of Dr. J.N. McCollum where she served as Pastor's Aide Chairman on the Kitchen Committee and Usher Board. 

Mattie was known for being a very good cook where she cooked in various restaurants such as JOHN'S CAFÉ and the SHACK on East Page Avenue along with her dear friend the late Mrs. Lula B. Smith. With them two in the kitchen food would just melt in your mouth, especially their famous pies and Chicken and Dumplings. 

Mattie Jean Pierce was a long-time employee of Featherlite AKA Chamberdoors where she later retired. After moving to Portland, OR Mattie continued to work at Walmart and as a nanny for several years. Mattie enjoyed watching her favorite football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers and whatever team LeBron James played basketball on. 

November 8th, 1951, Mattie Jean Carroll united in Holy Matrimony to Matthew Tanner Dedmon to this union six children were born. An infant son preceded her in death. Later she united in Holy Matrimony to Carl Edward Pierce to this union one son was born Carl Louvrous Pierce who preceded her in Death February 5th, 2019. 

Left to cherish her memories are 4 daughters Kathryn (James) Bruton of Vancouver, WA, Marilyn D. Hughes of Tacoma, WA, Charlotte (John) Primm of Malvern, AR., Lorrie D. Harrison of McKinney, TX. One son Vance B. Dedmon of Portland, OR., 21 grandchildren 17 great grandchildren. Nephew Jimmy (Mae) Dixon of Los Angeles, CA, Niece Jesse L Goode of San Francisco, CA, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Longtime friends Mrs. Mary Cooper, Mrs. Lula Mae Carroll & Rev. John A. Hill all of Malvern, Arkansas
