In the early morning on June 9th, 2023 Mary O. Johnson was called home to be with the Lord. She was 87 years old.
Mary was born in Canton, MS to the parents of Percy Johnson and Georgia Sander. Where she lived until her mother Georgia Sander passed away. In 1970 Ms. Mary relocated to Portland, Oregon with her two daughters Hollie and Bernestine Dew, and with the help of her auntie Isabelle Sander, who she loved dearly. After settling in Portland, she attended Portland Community College (PCC), where she received her GED.
Mary lived a very spiritual life and loved doing the Lord’s work. She was very active in all church activities. She ushered, taught Sunday school, and assisted with the church choir. At home, it was all about family. Mary loved caring for her grand and great grandchildren, they kept her young. She loved to cook, give great advice, and offered a welcome and peaceful environment for you to be yourself. She constantly reminded you of the importance of family and to have faith in the Lord.
Mary is preceded in death by her father Percy, mother Georgia, and daughter Bernestine Dew. She is survived by her daughter Hollie. Grandchildren: Dewight Dew, Marketta Hamilton, Ebonie Smith, LaDonna Smith, and Perry as well as a host of cousins and friends.
