With reverence and love, we honor the life of Martha Louise (Toms) Ladd, born on February 5th, 1947, in Seattle, WA, to Willie Lee Toms Jr. and Evelyn Lavaugn Boles. Martha was the sixth of seven siblings, sharing her journey with James Ford, Maxine (Ford) Coleman, Willene (Ford) Burkhalter, Edward Ford, Robert Toms, and John Long.
Martha's life brimmed with beautiful moments and profound connections. She graduated from Jefferson High School in Portland, OR, where her musical talent shone through as she played the clarinet in the school band. In 1965, she welcomed her first son, Clouse-Ell Lee Benjamin Jr. The following year, on December 2nd, 1966, she married her high school sweetheart Bill Ladd Sr. Shortly after, in 1967, her joy multiplied with the arrival of her second son, Billy Ladd Jr. Martha's professional journey led her to Merrill Lynch, where her dedication and expertise flourished for 40 years. Starting as a cashier, she ascended to the role of financial supervisor, garnering recognition for her time and contributions until her well-deserved retirement on July 11, 2008.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Martha's essence radiated warmth, kindness, and boundless love. She held a special place in her heart for her children and grandchildren, always advocating for the importance of education and providing unwavering support in every facet of their lives. She created a warm, welcoming, judgment-free space and safe haven for all who sought her guidance and love.
Martha leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion cherished by her surviving brother, John Long; her adoring children, Clouse-Ell Benjamin Jr.(Frankie) and Billy Ladd Jr. (Kali); her beloved grandchildren, Chris Benjamin (Natasha), Mariah Ladd Tabron (Paul), Marquiah Ladd, Jalen Ladd, Brynn Ladd, Jordan Ladd, Treyon Benjamin, Charlie Ashbury, Jonathan Ashbury, Kaleah Ashbury, and Amaya Ashbury; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Andrew Benjamin, Paul Tabron III, and Mailo Tabron. She will be deeply missed by her loved ones, including Rachel Tomlin, Michelle Ladd, Kellye Hall, Ernestine Evans, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
