Martel Sims Obituary

On Sunday July 28, 1974, a baby girl was born named Martel Marie Sims to her parents, Hattie  Sims and Ronald Bryant. She became the little sister to Philip Sims, whom he loved and adored the day she arrived home.

Martel received her education through Portland Public Schools. Martel held various jobs, the latest working for Central City Concerns as a night supervisor at a transitional building for underprivileged individuals of our community. Unfortunately, Martel started experiencing ailments within herself which at that time prevented her from working and loving what she did which was helping others. During this entire experience Martel stayed true to who she was at all times.

Martel definitely voiced her opinions openly, up until the day she transitioned to her forever home on August 26, 2022. She would finally meet her baby boy again, which was the love of her life and stuck with his mother through her illness all the way until he himself was called to his forever home. This senseless act devastated the community and Martel more than anyone.

Martel being a “Queen of all Trades” she did whatever was needed to be done to take care of her children. Although there may have been a few bumps in the road she made it happen out of what she had. Martel was one of the most genuine women you’d come in contact with. If she liked or loved you that’s exactly what you got and if she didn’t she’d tell you. Martel was humorous just an all-around good woman. Martel lived at her own beat a true Leo, she was very determined and driven.

Martel was so scared to become a mother but, after the birth of Derrick she became a great mother and provider to all four of her children, it became natural to her!

Martel fought a long and good fight and for that alone makes her a “Warrior” for life. She is the true meaning of a “Beautiful Black Queen”. Let’s not underestimate her knowledge pertaining to her African American Heritage that she played no jokes about.

Martel will be most definitely missed and never ever forgotten.

Rest in Love Our Queen!

Preceding her is her mother, Hattie Sims; father, Ronald Bryant; son, La’Marcus Brazile, maternal and paternal grandparents and a host of family and friends.
