Leeorteen Denise (Black) Brown was born to Harvey Lee Black, Sr., and Terry Emma Lou Dudley on
August 6, 1949, in Klamath Falls, OR. She lived in various places including Oregon, Washington State,
Arizona, Florida, and Japan. During her time in Florida, she welcomed her firstborn son William Terrance
Walters, and first daughter Rachael Marie Walters from her first marriage.
She moved to Portland in 1975 and became a member of Greater Mt. Calvary COGIC (later renamed
Daniels Memorial COGIC).
Denise wed Robert Brown Sr., in 1977 in Vancouver, WA. From this union, they welcomed a son Robert
Willie Brown III, and daughter Sandra Elizabeth Brown.
All of her life, Denise helped and cared for others. She was a labor and delivery nurse in Florida, and in
Oregon she worked with the elderly in care facilities. Later, she opened a thriving childcare business,
and in 1995, Denise and her husband Robert, opened Pleasant View Adult Care Homes in Gresham, OR.
Denise loved church! She loved listening to gospel music and often sang songs of praise with her sister.
She even taught herself to play church songs on the organ. As hobbies, she enjoyed baking and cake
decorating, painting, drawing, and caring for her family pets. Denise also enjoyed the lost art of letter
writing. She cherished spending time with her family and reaching out by phone to loved ones just to
brighten their day. Although disabled, by the grace of God she was able to attend church in person twice
last summer.
Since 2020, Denise has received loving care from Tranquil Country Living Adult Care Home in
Battleground, WA. One of her favorite nurses, Mark, could sometimes be seen flat-ironing her hair. The
last week of her life was spent in the compassionate care of The Ray Hickey Hospice House in
Vancouver, WA.
Denise was preceded in death by her parents, two children, one grandchild, one sister and her five
brothers. Denise leaves to mourn her passing: husband Robert Brown Sr., the seven children she raised -
William Walters (Kandra) (NJ), Rachael Walters (AZ), Robert Brown III, Sandra Brown, Kaliyah Frank
