A dancer like no other, our beloved Lavern William Houston was born in Portland Oregon on December 4, 1959 to Bertha Lee Poston and Alvern Houston. He attended Boise and King Elementary Schools and graduated from John Adams High School. He worked for Portland Public Schools for 16 years as a Special Education Teacher's Aide for autistic children which he loved. Due to a disability he had to take an early retirement.
Over his 64 years of life he formed precious friendships and extended relationships with so many people. Lavern was very artistic and loved to make miniature houses to give away to family and friends. If you needed someone to get the party started, no matter the music, he was that guy. He was one of the best dancers and would dance all night long. He also loved to bowl and was a member on the NARFE Senior Bowling League with his cousin LaVerne Davis. He was so much fun, everybody loved him and his sense of humor. No one could get past him without walking away with a nickname. With a kind heart he never hesitated to assist those in need.
He leaves to cherish the memory of his mother, Bertha Lee Poston, two sisters, Alva Lee Houston and Genevieve (Cindy) Poston, and brother, Cameron James, all of Portland, Oregon; an uncle and three aunts, one of which was a favorite, Irma London and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Alvern Houston; sisters Versia DeWayne Poston and Juanita (Poston) Jones; two brothers, Frank Richard Poston and RV Poston, Jr; and sister-in-law Selena Poston.
