Laura Mae Edwards, a loving, devoted mother and cherished friend joined the Lord on March 12, 2022.
Laura was born in Paris, Texas, on January 14, 1947, to Weaver Edwards and Perlene Bailey. She was raised in Texas until she moved to Portland, Oregon, and was raised by her late Aunt Alene and Uncle Manley Baltzegar. Laura was the oldest of four siblings on her mother’s side, followed by Manfred, Leslie, Cedric, and Irene. Laura also had nine siblings in Texas on her father’s side: Audrey, Cynthia, Marcus, James, Daniel, Jerrell, Lillian, Sherry, and Willis.
Laura attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Portland, Oregon. After graduating, she married Joseph Reid Junior and from that union, the two welcomed three beautiful children: Adrienne, Jason, and Joshua. She was a hard worker and had an outstanding work ethic; she always kept a job and had a successful 38-year career with Tri-Met as a driver then Station Agent where she ran the sign-up process. Laura loved her job and was always a support to her co-workers. Even after retiring, she stayed in contact with many and enjoyed visiting and having lunch with them.
Laura accepted the Lord at a young age and became a member of Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church. Laura cherished her role on the Mother’s Board and assisted with various tasks. She loved her church and enjoyed attending service with her family. After retiring, it did not take long for her to get used to relaxing and living life to the fullest. She joined a women’s bowling league and was a member of The Red Hat Club, which she loved and enjoyed. She also spent her free time at the casino with her friends and sister-in-law.
Laura was very caring, considerate, and never had an issue helping those in need. For twenty-plus years, she was a foster parent and provided love and care to children and teens who could not be with their families. Laura loved to cook and bake; no one ever went hungry around her. She was most known for her delicious pound cakes and infamous dressing. There was always a cake or something sweet in her kitchen. Laura was very close to her children and grandchildren and spent most of her time with family. There wasn’t a thing she wouldn’t do for them, whether it was attending a sporting event or helping with activities, such as selling Girl Scout cookies.
Laura is survived by her three children, Adrienne Christinia, Jason Reid, and Joshua Reid; daughter-in-law Stacey Reid; five grandchildren Micoelle Christinia, Marqesse Christinia, Sydnee Reid, Chase Reid, and Alyssa Wenrick, plus a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, foster children, and dear friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, Weaver Edwards, mother Perlene White, mother-in-law Mary Reid, and son-in-law Miguelle Christinia.
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life.
The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.
-John 11:25
