“For My Cousin Larry”
I always wondered what you were really like,
Growing up, you were distant—
Spent time away at “college,”
A mystery wrapped in time,
But still felt like a brother, not just a cousin of mine.
The younger memories, they come and go,
But your smile? That stayed.
That laugh? Loud, real,
Like it could shake the room and heal
Whatever weight the moment laid.
Just a year ago,
We started something sacred—your story, your truth,
Your autobiography.
It was then I finally met you, Cousin Larry—
So animated, so damn funny,
Had me cracking up talking about life,
Even dropped gems about moments with my late father
That I never even knew.
It was an honor to write your story—
To walk through your past,
To hear your voice,
And feel your glory.
You were a comedian in disguise,
A survivor,
And in every word you gave me,
I saw a man with fire in his eyes.
I hate I didn’t finish your book before you left,
But I promise, on everything,
I’m gonna finish it.
You gave me the chapters—I’ll handle the rest.
So rest now, Cousin.
No more pain, no more stress.
Give Mom and Dad and Bruce a kiss,
And my father too—let them all know they’re missed.
Until we meet again in that place of light,
Where angels laugh and stars shine bright,
I know you’re up there dancing, singing—
No more pain, just peace…
my brother, forever ringing.
