LaShawanta Spears Hardy was a woman of strength, brilliance, grace, and deep compassion. She lived a life marked by service, leadership, and love. In the field of education, she made a lasting impact on countless students, families, and colleagues. Over the years, she served in multiple roles, including instructional assistant, school counselor, assistant principal, Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Assistant Superintendent in the David Douglas School District. Her work was recognized across Oregon, including being named Oregon’s 2021 Assistant Principal of the Year. Public education leaders also entrusted her with statewide leadership, electing her as President-Elect and later President of the Coalition of Oregon School Administrators.
LaShawanta was known not only for the titles she held, but for the heart with which she carried them. Those who worked with her saw a leader who believed in doing what was best for students, championing equity, uplifting others, and helping build better schools and stronger communities. Her voice, wisdom, and leadership reached far beyond one campus or one district, touching educators and families throughout Oregon.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, LaShawanta held dear her spiritual walk and her service to the Kingdom of God. She deeply loved and honored the role and credential she carried as a Missionary at Emmanuel Church under the leadership of Bishop C.T. Wells and Lady D’Angelo Wells. She did not take that calling lightly. She wore it with humility, dignity, and pride, counting it a true honor to serve alongside such a powerful body of believers. Being a part of the missionary ministry meant so much to her, and she cherished the opportunity to stand with and among strong, anointed women of faith.
Yet for all she accomplished publicly, her greatest joy was her family. LaShawanta was a loving and devoted mother to her three beautiful children, Monterio, Monnie, and Amira. She treasured them deeply and poured love, guidance, and strength into their lives. She was also the beloved wife and the love of the life of her husband, Pastor DeShawn Hardy. Their bond was one of deep love, partnership, and devotion.
LaShawanta also shared a precious and meaningful bond with her sisters and brother, and she deeply valued the love of her extended family and community. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, excellence, compassion, and unwavering commitment to others. Her life was a gift to so many, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
She will be remembered as an extraordinary educator, a respected leader, a devoted wife, a loving mother, a cherished sister, a faithful missionary, and a beautiful soul whose impact will never be forgotten.
