Parents, William H. Woods Sr. and Cledie L. Woods welcomed the birth of their 6th child, Korla B. Woods on December 5, 1955 in Portland, Oregon. He peacefully transitioned home on June 30, 2021 with the contagious notable smile on his face.
Korla was a talented self-taught musician. At the age of 3 he was playing the piano and later progressed to other instruments finally settling on the guitar. His career led to him playing in band with Randy Starr and the Players. Included in his musical career, Korla wrote lyrics, musical scores, even performed as a vocalist and entertained locally as a guest guitarist with different groups.
Korla, also, had a multitude of other talents. He was always unconditionally helping others and never asking for payment in return. He learned how to fuel and pilot a helicopter among a few of his skills. He learned his versatile handy traits from his father. These applied skills led to several employment opportunities from building wooden pallets, baking bread at a bakery, to unloading automobiles imported to Portland via docked ships.
Everyone who met Korla had kind words to say about him, what a great man he was; he was always helpful and never turned anyone away when they requested his assistance. Most often, he declined payment for his services. Korla loved to play pranks on people to elicit a smile from them. His favorite sayings to friends were, “Top of the morning to you”, and “What’s going on”? The neighborhood adults and children all loved Korla and his famous smile and personality.
Everyone who knew Korla was aware of his passionate love of Jaguar Cars. He was the owner of several Jaguars in his lifetime. Most recently was the White Jag.
Korla leaves behind his mother, Cledie L. Woods, four sisters, Phillis Pace, Judy Webb (Larry), Daphne Barnes, and Margot Woods; two brothers, William Woods Jr. (Saundra) and Leonardo Woods, and a son, Durell Woods. He had a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins and many others considered part of the immediate family.
