Katharine Ann Hepburn

On September 7, 1943, a beautiful baby girl named Katharine Ann was born to the union of David and Erma B. Hepburn. Raised in Portland, Oregon, Katharine was the youngest of her 6 siblings. She grew up on G Street (Gantenbein) and kept close ties with the neighborhood even after becoming an adult.

Katharine graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1961. Afterwards, she went on to find her career niche by first working for the US Forest Service before being hired in 1970 at Owens Illinois (now Owens Brockway). During her time there she held many different titles. She went on to retire from the plant in 2005 after 35 years of service. Being bored with retirement, she went back to work for Portland Public Schools as a cafeteria worker at Vernon Elementary School. She loved seeing and interacting with the kids daily. She also enjoyed the new friends she made while there. She once again retired in 2015 from the school district.

Kat, as many called her, loved playing cards. She also loved her soap operas and reality TV shows. Her favorite adult beverage of choice was a Black Velvet, but she would never turn down a good Cadillac Gold Margarita. She loved Bobby Blue Bland, and she knew how to have fun with her infectious laugh.

Katharine is survived by her only daughter, Tamara Lynn and her granddaughter, Diamonique Chanel. She leaves to cherish her memory a host of extended family members, cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as an abundance of friends. She will truly be missed and always known for the phenomenal woman she was.
