Joyce Faye Green, lovingly known by her middle name Faye, was born on July 19, 1952, to Woodrow Green Sr. and Carrie Mae Green in Warren, Arkansas. She was the seventh of nine children.
At just six weeks old, Faye moved with her family from Warren, Arkansas to Portland, Oregon, where she grew up. She attended Boise Elementary School and later Jefferson High School, where she excelled as a member of the track team and distinguished herself as the state champion in shorthand writing.
After graduating, Faye continued her education at Arizona State University, where she also joined a track club. Her exceptional talent on the track caught the attention of ASU coaches, who encouraged her to train for the Olympics. Although honored, Faye had her own dreams and chose a different path for her future.
Throughout her life, Faye held various positions and excelled at anything she set her mind to. She worked with Kelly Services and Pacific Power & Life Corp. before finding her professional home at Oregon Tradeswomen, where her dedication and strong work ethic shined through in all she did. Yet of all her accomplishments, the one that spoke most to her character was the loving care she provided for her mother, whom she faithfully supported up until her mother’s final days.
Faye was the family historian. She kept in close contact with relatives both near and far, always making sure the family stayed connected. She believed deeply in the importance of knowing where you come from, and she made sure every member of the family knew their roots and how they were connected to one another. Faye even created an ancestry page to help locate relatives and preserve the family’s history; another way she ensured that the bond of family remained strong for generations to come.
Faye loved her family deeply, and it was evident in the way she showed up for each and every one of them. One of the most meaningful ways she expressed that love was through her creativity. She had a true passion for arts and crafts; designing and personalizing birthday posters and cards and crafting unique Christmas ornaments and holiday greetings. No matter the occasion, you always knew you would receive something special and heartfelt from Faye, created with her own hands and filled with her love.
Faye became a Christian at a young age. She and her family attended Open Door House of Prayer, where her faith first began to grow. As she got older, she became a member of Solid Rock, serving faithfully as the church’s Administrative Assistant for many years. Later, she joined her brother’s church, Love Temple, where she remained a devoted member until her passing.
Faye’s love for God was evident in every part of her life; from the sermons she carefully wrote in her notebooks to the sticky notes filled with prayers that could be found throughout her home. She never hesitated to share the gospel with others. Her greatest prayer was for her entire family to be saved, and she lifted their names before God Day in and day out.
Faye is preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow Green, Sr. and Carrie Mae Green, as well as her siblings Charles E. Green and Betty Jo Green.
She is survived by her loving siblings: Paul Green (Betty), Marion Johnson, Woodrow Green Jr., Ernestine Fuller, Julie Green, and Carrie “BaeBae” Green. She also leaves behind a large and devoted family, including a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews who adored her and were deeply touched by her presence in their lives.
