Joseph H. Henderson was born on July 2nd, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois. He resided in Chicago until the age of 14 when his family moved to Galesburg, IL. He attended high school in Galesburg where he graduated in 1948. It was in high school that he met the love of his life, Ms. Mary Ellis Tyler. Following his graduation, he proceeded to serve in the US Army for two years.
In 1954 Joseph and Mary were wed and subsequently moved to Portland, Oregon. In the same year, Joe became a member of the Prince Hall Masonry. For over 30 years he served at all levels and was elected Prince Hall Grand Master of Oregon, Idaho and Montana.
Joe loved the outdoors, bowling, fishing, traveling, was an avid sports fan and maintained a beautiful rose garden at his home. He committed his time various community and youth programs and was at his best when around family and friends.
He leaves behind his wife Mary of 57 years, two children (Gloria and Daryl), sister Rosella Peters, three grand children (Bryan, Diana and Mychal), his great granddaughter Nevaeh and a host of nieces and nephews.
