Joseph Adam Barker Jr. aka The Gentle Giant, and Uncle Bo to his only niece Leilani was born December 19, 1984 in San Leandro, California to Cynthia Barker and Joseph Barker Sr. He was the oldest of four children. While still a baby in arms the family moved to Portland, Oregon. During his youth Joe lost his father in death, and it seemed as though he somehow knew the importance this loss would have on his siblings. Joe stepped up to be the best BIG Brother anyone could ask for.
Joe attended Jefferson High School in Portland, OR. While there he participated in the athletic department where he dedicated himself to football, basketball, baseball, and graduated in 2003. He was a friend to many and always found a way to bring someone home for his mom to feed…Lol!
Joe accepted Jesus into his heart at an early age and attended church services with his mom at Consumed By The Harvest Family Worship Center of Vancouver, WA, under the leadership of Pastor Bennie Moore.
Everyone knew of Joe’s love of family, clothing, shoes and the San Francisco 49ers. He was a respectful, gentle (thus the Gentle Giant), caring man. He should have had a moving company with the name “Joe’s Express” as he was always helping move someone. If you moved anywhere in Oregon or Washington State Joe (and Arvon) probably moved you. Joe loved to laugh and have fun, for years he worked with traveling carnival, and he made sure any children in his family were going to get in and have unlimited fun too. Once the staff knew you were related to Joe, you would be taken care of, and LeAnna would get whatever she wanted. Joe never met a person that didn’t become family, he worked hard to bring them all together. If the family had been apart too long or there had not been a gathering, Joe was quick to call everyone together and give finances to make sure there was food. Joe moved on to becoming a supervisor for a gas station chain and was dedicated to his job. He loved what he did so much that even when he was suffering through illness in his body, he never wanted to take a day off from work. One of the last things Joe wanted to do was take a cruise for his 40th birthday, although he did not get to do that in the natural, on June 2, 2024 he cruised out of here to the most desired destination of believers throughout the world.
He is gone too soon and will be missed by many.
