The heavens welcomed a kind soul, irreplaceable Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandma, Aunt, Sister and wife.
Always going above and beyond for anyone in her path. Devoted to not only her professional life in her younger years, but to her family and those she held close. Always walking with the Lord first in her life.
Born Johnnie Mae Moore to Thomas and Ollie Mae Moore in Selma Alabama. She passed down many stories of the civil rights movement and hardships of racism she experienced while growing up there. From marching with Martin Luther King, losing her shoe in a protest, being held hostage in a church with her mother, to boycotts of stores and buses in her town. By 1969, her family decided to pursue a better life and moved to Portland Oregon. Upon arriving, she decided to leave parts of the south behind and chose to go by Janice majority of her adult life. She met Craig Stewart in the early 70’s and later married in 1974. From this marriage came her only daughter, Makeda Stewart. Craig and Janice later
decided in 1998 to part ways as spouses, but remained great friends until his passing in 2015.
She attended Western Business College and acquired many administrative positions such as secretary for a real estate company, record specialist for
Portland Police Department and finally landing at Port of Portland T6 as a supervisor where she retired after 20 plus years of dedication.
In her retirement years, she spent loving on her family and cooking to feed anyone who visited her. She loved baking on holidays, having gatherings at her home, dancing, and sharing laughs.
She later met Abraham Baron, and they married in 2017 and they continued life together until her passing.
