Joe W. Spain

Joe Willie Spain was born February 22, 1931 in Missouri to Lonnie Spain and Edithe Als. He was their second child of eleven total children; 5 of which sadly died at birth. Joe passed away on January 23, 2020 at the age of 88.

Joe worked as a mechanic for 20 years in Chicago, Illinois but had various other jobs throughout his life; Zimmerman Auto Scrapping for 6 years, The Oregonian News Paper for 2 years, The Shipyard and many other small jobs.  Joe was the type of man who liked to stay busy.

Joe would often visit his only living sibling, Victoria. He would come over to visit and clean her house the way he wanted it; That was Joe! Victoria would also take him to his doctor’s appointments and afterwards, she would treat him to a Three Musketeers candy bar. His reply was always the same when he was finished; he would say “that was GOOD!” Joe will be missed dearly.

Preceding Joe in death are sisters Agnes Steward-Sorrells (1966), Juanita Williams (1978), and Lillian Lee Wesby (2013) as well as brother Little Richard Steward (2007). Also preceding Joe in death is his wife, Mary Spain, and his step-son Reggie Thompson.

Joe leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Joe Spain Jr, Rodney Spain, Renee, Cynthia, Windell, Melvin, Shelly, Velma, Crystal, Darell, Craig, and a host of stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
