We are sad to share news of the passing of Jerry Reed Sandefer. Known fondly as “LaBuck” or “Tommy” to friends, Jerry was a loving Husband, Father, Brother, and a true friend to many. Jerry passed away, Friday April 14th, 2023, in Portland at the age of 66, due to heart failure while watching his son’s baseball practice.
Jerry was born September 17, 1956, in Long Beach, California, to parents John Reed Sandefer and Lillian May Keehen Sandefer. The family moved to Salem, Oregon in 1961, where Jerry graduated from McNary High School in 1974. He went on to study at Southern Oregon College and graduated from University of Oregon, with a degree in telecommunications.
From a young age, he was known for his outgoing personality and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Jerry was a people person, and his warm and honest nature endeared him to everyone he met.
Jerry was a fixture of the early Portland punk rock scene, playing in numerous bands, including The House of Usher, The Carbonas, and The Disasternauts. After working for Air Cal and running a movie security company in Los Angeles, Jerry spent years working as a cable guy in Portland, first for Cox, then Paragon, and later Comcast Cable
A pillar of the SE Portland Little League community, Jerry was a lifelong baseball fan and loved watching his son Eli play.
Jerry is survived by his wife Ana Sandefer, their son Eli and stepchildren Gissel, Luz Mery, Andreina, and Samuel; daughter from a previous marriage Jade Torrison- Sandefer; sister Jill Fehr and her husband Donald Fehr; his nephews Kyle and Reed Fehr; great niece Harper Fehr; and cousins Michael, Rick, David, Jim, Patricia, and Nancy.
Services will be held at Grace Christian Fellowship in Portland (7325 N Bank st) Wednesday April 26th, with viewing at 2:00 and service to follow at 3:00.
Ashes will be interned at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Happy Valley Oregon.
