It is with great sadness that the family of Jackie Eugene Johnson announces his passing at the age of 80.
Jackie died on Monday, August 9, 2021 after a short battle with cancer. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
Jackie was born July 28, 1941, in Crossett, Arkansas to Tommie and Mattie Johnson. He moved to Portland as a baby in 1943, when his parents came to work in the shipyards during WWII. He lived with his family in Vanport, Oregon until the flood of 1948. They then moved to NE Portland where he remained the rest of his life.
Jackie was a veteran, serving two tours of Army duty in 1959 and 1962-1964. He met and married his wife Mary Jewel in 1965. Jackie worked at Shell Oil for almost 30 years, ending his career as Warehouse Foreman.
Jack was a prankster. He loved to play elaborate jokes on family and friends, even getting his kids and grandkids to help him pull them off. He loved to laugh and joke and had amusing nicknames for almost everyone he knew. His humor and laughter will be greatly missed.
Jackie is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Jewel; his daughters Rollette Solomon and Toni Davis of Portland; his sisters Constance Sexton of Birmingham, Alabama, Betty Johnson and Janet
Logan of Portland, Oregon; 11 grandchildren, 15 Great-grandchildren, as well as many Nieces,
Nephews, Cousins and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Tommie and Mattie Johnson, his brother Bobby Johnson, his sister Carolyn Lewis and his sons Dante Johnson and Dewayne Williams.
