Grover Cleveland Clegg, Sr. was born October 10, 1944, to the late Herbert and Olcie Clegg in Prattsville, Arkansas. He was born the fifth of eight children. Grover graduated from A. A. Wilson High School in Malvern, Arkansas in May of 1964. He married Betty Blackmon on July 5, 1964, to this union five children were born. That fall he began attending AM & N Agriculture College in Pine Bluff where he received his certificate in welding.
Grover started to work for Stephens, Inc. during high school and continued to be employed both full-time and part-time for nine years after completing his training at AM&N. In 1968, he began working for Reynolds Metal Company in Jones Mills, Arkansas. He transferred to Troutdale, Oregon in 1975, where he continued to work for Reynold's until his retirement.
He was united with Davis Creek Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and was active in the church until he transferred to Oregon. He joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Portland where he served on the usher board, trustee board and a member of the Sunday school department.
Grover was a great athlete. He played baseball and lettered in football. He was offered a full-ride athletic scholarship to Kansas State University, but chose to stay closer to home. In his spare time he loved to play pool and dominoes. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He never met a stranger. More than anything else, Grover loved to be around his family.
His parents, Herbert and Olcie Clegg; a brother, Jessie Pumphrey; sister, Mildred Doby and Wilsa Robinson; and one grandchild, Peyton Clegg preceded his death.
Grover leaves to cherish his precious memories, Betty, his wife of 59 years. His children, Grover Clegg, Junior (Christina, deceased), Tracy Clegg, Pamela Clegg-Jones (Timothy), Randall Clegg, and Lionel Clegg. His grandchildren, Marcus Clegg, Andre' Broadous, Christopher Clegg (Brittany), Paige Clegg, and Parker Clegg. His great-grandchildren, Logan Clegg and London Clegg. His siblings, Leonard Clegg (Mary, deceased), Millie Williams (Jimmie, deceased), Morris Clegg (Rhonda, deceased), Bessie Johnson. He also leaves a host of other relatives and friends.
