Born to Benjamin Dean Sr. and Mary Rose Dean, Gloria was the eldest daughter of her parents. From an early age, she carried herself with dignity, responsibility, and compassion—qualities that defined her throughout her life.
Gloria was the longtime owner and steward of Dean’s Beauty Salon and Barbershop, a family business founded in 1954 by her parents. In the 1980s, the business was entrusted to her care. For more than 50 years, Gloria led with integrity, grace, and dedication, creating not only a successful business but also a welcoming place rooted in community and respect. Her legacy continues through the business and the many lives she touched.
Gloria was deeply devoted to her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Dean Sr. and Mary Rose Dean; her brother, Benjamin Dean Jr.; her first husband, William Marshall Brown; and her second husband, J.T. Tims.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Kimberly Kaye Brown, Byron Brown Sr. (married to Shalonda Brown), and Kelly Ruthe Johnson (married to Thiel (Bruce) Johnson, Gloria’s favorite—and only—son-in-law).
Gloria is survived by her grandchildren, Adrian Stelly (married to Shauncey Stelly), Natasha Johnson, Aaron Stelly (married to Jessica Stelly), Byron Brown Jr., Nicole Rose Johnson, and Brandon Brown, and by her great-grandchildren , Brian Alexander Stelly, Nova Pearl Stelly, and Dean Austin Stelly.
She is also survived by her sisters, Kay Dean Toran and Rose Dean; She is also survived by her nieces Traci Rossi Smith (married to Rich Smith) and Shawn Daniels, both of whom shared many hours of warmth, love, and meaningful time with Gloria. Traci was like a daughter to her and held a special place in Gloria’s heart.
Gloria is also survived by her nephews Karim Rasheed, Emille Bryant, and John Toran. She was a devoted great-aunt to Alexandra Rossi and Joshua Rossi, whom she loved dearly.
She is further survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends, including her lifelong friend since the age of five, Natalee Barnett.
Gloria Ella Dean-Tims will be remembered for her grace, her wisdom, her radiant smile, and the way she made people feel seen, valued, and loved. Her legacy lives on through her family, her community, and all whose lives were enriched by her presence.
