George D. Steen Jr was born to Ouida Tyler and George D. Steen on July 3rd, 1974, in Portland, Oregon. He spent his childhood in Portland surrounded by family and friends. George was a graduate at Roosevelt High School. He was very sociable and enjoyed making friends and was always willing to help those in need. He carried this sentiment throughout his life.
He joined the Navy in November 16, 1992. His first duty station was in Bremerton Washington on the USS Sacramento AOE 1 where he worked as a cook. He was then assigned as the Building Manager and Cook on watch at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. George then returned to the USS Sacramento as the Captains Cook. He finished his military service at Joint Base Hickam in Hawaii where he worked as a Watch Captain and Wardroom Supervisor until he retired.
George Steen retired from the United States Navy with an honorable discharge after 20 years of service on November 30, 2012. During his time in the Navy, he deployed several times in support of the Global War on Terrorism. He was awarded three Navy Achievement Medals, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, three Navy "E" Ribbons, six Good Conduct Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, four Sea Service Deployment Ribbons and a Surface Warfare Designation.
George welcomed four children into the world Lamonte McCoy, Shirene McCoy who he has reunited with, Deavon Ivey, and Kyla Dullux.
He is survived by his mother Ouida Tyler, his sons Lamonte McCoy and Deavon Ivey and his daughter Kyla Dullux, and his grandson Avery McCoy. As well as his sisters Trevina Cooper and Cheryle Steen. His aunts Roberta Tyler, Alvider Hall-Douglas, Vernita Hall. In addition to his many nieces, nephews, cousins, God children, friends and shipmates that became family over the years.
