Fred Harris was born on April 14, 1930, to Andrew Harris and Albertha Bennett Harris. He joined seven brothers. Four years after Fred's birth a baby sister was born.
Fred was drafted into the Army in December of 1951 during the Korean War; however, Fred was sent to Japan where he learned to speak the Japanese language fluently. When Fred returned home, he went to a trade school at Jackson State College where he learned masonry and concrete work. He later moved to Chicago where he worked in construction and later Fred worked at the University of Chicago, as a custodian.
In late 1965 Fred was introduced to a young lady by his cousin, her name was Christell Clark. They were later married and from this marriage they had three children Christopher, Frerita, and Tanisha.
In 1969 they relocated to Portland, Oregon where Fred worked for Esco Corp three years and was a welder and then he was hired at Freightliner Trucking Company from where he retired in 1992.
Fred leaves to mourn his passing; his wife of fifty-eight years Christell; his sister Albertha Matthews of Raleigh, NC; children, Roy Cooper (Genelle) of Hanover, MD, Frederick (Deborah), Christopher Quinn and Erin Tanisha (his daughter Frerita preceded him in death in May of this year); grandchildren, Angela (James) Jackson of Hanover, MD, Patrick Cooper (Kimberely) of VA, Brittany Harris, Andrew Badley, Jordan Harris of Sacramento, CA, Aaron Taylor of Las Vegas, NV, Izear Nyke Sweet Jr., Devonia Harris, Venita Jackson, Ashley Harris of Illinois, Brianna Williamson of Houston, Texas. Also mourning his passing; Brandi Davis, Tony Taylor, Annie L. Williams & many nieces, nephews and cousins and three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.
