Frances Noble Odom was born April 23, 1929, to Stephan A. Noble and Estella Jackson-Noble in Wewoka, Oklahoma. As a young girl Frances attended Noble Town elementary school and Douglas High School. She was the fourth oldest out of five siblings born to this union.
In 1941 Frances moved to San Francisco, CA where she worked at Spencer Cannery. Frances later moved to Portland, Oregon in 1942 where she lived in East Van Port and worked in the shipyards. Frances was a victim of the Van Port floods, which caused her to move to Vancouver, WA with her brother and sister. She then met and married Orville H. "Jeff" Dickson and to that union four children were born, Harold, Donna, Danny and Linda. They later divorced. Frances was employed at Emanuel Hospital as a nurse assistant and later became a Unit Secretary on the Oncology floor. Frances retired after 40 years in 1995.
In the late 50's Frances joined Vancouver Avenue First Baptist church and was baptized by the late DR. OB Williams. As a member, Frances served on the #2 senior usher board as well as serving as the usher department President. Frances would then meet the love of her life William B. Odom Jr. who she later married. He preceded her in death in 2009. Frances also served as a deaconess as well as the Chairman of the deaconess board. She also was on the mission and mother's board. Frances loved being a member of Vancouver Ave First Baptist church. She was a very active and dedicated member. Truly a woman of God.
Her presence was very well known. She loved wearing her beautiful hats. She never missed a Sunday wearing her best outfit and hat.
Frances was also a member of the Prince Hall Order of the Eastern Star for the States of OR/ID and MT. She was a loyal member of Electa Chapter #5. Frances has served as a past Grand Worthy Matron, past matron, as well as other stations. Frances was also a member of the Golden Circle and Daughter of Isis where she held various top positions. She also was a member of the AARP.
In Frances spare time she loved working in her garden as well as doing yard work. This was her passion and she enjoyed it very much. It is said that Ms. Frances could make a mean margarita that could make your hair stand straight up.!!!! Just ask her close friends. She also loved going to the casino!
Frances loved her family and would enjoy seeing them at family gatherings. She especially enjoyed her Sunday outings with her daughter Donna.
Frances is preceded in death by husband, Wm. B. Odom Jr; 1 sister Orene Rosemon; 3 brothers and their wives, Everett Noble of Spokane, WA, Wm. James Noble and Lloyd Noble both of Portland, OR; daughter, Linda S. Horsley-Wade; stepdaughter, Wilena Fowlkes, and great grandson Rafael Hall.
She leaves to cherish her memories: daughter, Donna Keller; sons, Harold Dickson and Danny Dickson; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren, as well as 6 plus step grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces and friends.
