Evelyn Goldsby Obituary

Evelyn was the first-born child of Albert Marks Goldsby and Doris Jewel Young, born December 25, 1947, in Portland, OR. Evelyn was baptized at an early age at Cameron Grove Baptist Church in Cameron, TX. Under the leadership of Rev. T.R. Rufus.
She attended 1st-3rd grade in Cameron. Upon her return to Portland, she completed her elementary education at Highland Elementary, then went on to Grant High School- graduating in 1966. She then spent two years at Portland State University. After two years at PSU & knowing what she wanted her career path to be, she sought after & successfully obtained employment with the State of Oregon where she became a DHS & Children’s Services professional. She received many awards & accolades over the course of 30 years of working for the state. Evelyn retired in 2001 & thoroughly enjoyed her life by becoming more deeply involved in her church, taking well deserved vacations/cruises & spending quality with her family & grandchildren.
In her early teens, Evelyn, along with her family, became members of Mt. Gillard Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor W.D. Grant. Later the family joined St. Mark Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor E.C. Wilder, where she remained until 1979.
In the 1980’s Evelyn became a member of the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor James C.E. Faulkner. She served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and was also ordained as a deaconess during this time. She joined the St. Paul gospel choir where she sang and lead several inspirational songs- getting requests for songs like “Leak in This Old Building”, “God Is”, “When I See Jesus”, “None But The Righteous” and many more. While one of her favorite songs to listen to was “Silver & Gold”, “Leak in This Old Building” is appropriate for today because, in the end, there was a leak in her building and her soul needed move. God called her home to rest on that final Sunday morning.
Evelyn entered into a union with Eugene C. Brooks. To that union were born 3 children- Delmia Brooks (deceased), Erica D. Brooks (deceased) and Dustin Brooks of Portland OR. Evelyn was proceeded in death by her father, mother, two brothers (Jeffrey and Michael Simmons) and sister Charlene D. Spikes- all of Cameron, Texas.
She leaves, to mourn her transition, 5 brothers- Albert Goldsby of Henderson, NV, Dwight Goldsby (Alice) of Cameron, TX, Dwayne Goldsby (Ella Jo) of Houston, TX, Terry Simmons of Cameron, TX and Kenneth R. Goldsby of Portland, OR. As well as 4 sisters- Barbara A. Whitney (Harry) of Henderson, NV, Debra Lyons of Columbus, GA, Cynthia Simmons of Cameron, TX, Angela Turner (Elvin) of Cordova, TN and one stepsister Cynthia Betts of Portland, OR.
Evelyn also leaves her grandchildren Elise Howard, Jesse R. Talton, Antjuan Hammick, Davonte Moore, Dylan Cayson-Brooks, Gage Brooks, Curtis T. Brooks, Alexa Moyer, Dustin Brooks Jr. & a host of bonus grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family.
We will all miss Evelyn, but she will never be forgotten.
