Eunice Minerva (Merchant) Wilson, age 90, passed away peacefully at home on April 1, 2024. Eunice was born February 17, 1934, in Elizabeth, Louisiana. Her parents were the late Rev. William and Mrs. Ada Merchant. Eunice was also preceded in death by sisters, Myrtle Hassel, Myrtress Maddocks, Nell Riccio, and Ruth Hall; and one brother, William Ensley (Dub) Merchant.
She is survived by children, Jane Jackson (Robert) of Shreveport, LA, Philip Wilson (Sheila) of Little Rock, AR, Susan Walters (Tony) of Grand Junction, CO, Bert Wilson (Nancy) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Denise Brown of Seabrook, TX; as well as 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Eunice was known for many things, but first and foremost was her unshakable faith in her Lord and savior and his only begotten son Jesus Christ. She treasured her relationship with her church, McClendon Baptist in West Monroe, LA, where she enjoyed singing in the choir, working in the nursery, and serving through the entertainment/events committee. She was also a devoted caregiver to her large family, and through her work at Columbia, LA Developmental Center where she retired at age 73.
Known to family and friends as Nanny, Eunice had a wide variety of interests. Her cooking was legendary – specifically her pecan pie that will be missed by all. Nanny loved to travel, and she could be a bit of a daredevil - even parasailing in Hawaii in her 70's. Nanny loved nature, flowers (especially red roses), bird watching, and long hikes. Her last hike was on her favorite trail (the Old Salmon River Trail in Mt. Hood National Forest) at age 86. None of us will ever forget the epic games of Uno at holiday gatherings where Nanny crushed her opponents, and we were sore from laughter.
Amazing woman of Faith, loving mother and grandmother, and wonderful friend to all who knew her - Nanny, we will treasure every memory.
