Estella Sayles Johnson, 83, of Portland, Oregon, was peacefully called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 8:18 p.m.
Born on April 25, 1942, in Midland, Texas, Estella was the beloved daughter of the late Bernice and Allen Odom, Sr. After the passing of her mother, Estella moved to Portland in 1944 with her father, siblings, and aunties, where she would spend the majority of her life. She completed her education at Washington High School, graduating in 1960. On April 20, 1963, Estella married Fred Johnson of Denver, Colorado. From this union, they welcomed their son, Jeffrey Johnson, on March 11, 1965. Later, Estella was blessed with another son, Demont Gibson, whom she shared with Henry Gibson, Sr., born on August 8, 1980.
Estella dedicated 20 years of service to Fred Meyer before retiring in 2005. Known for her steady work ethic and warm spirit, she built lasting relationships throughout her career.
Estella found joy in life’s simple pleasures such as playing cards with her sister and close friends, listening to gospel music, and cherishing time spent with her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Family meant everything to her, and her love for them was deep and unwavering.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bernice and Allen, Sr.; brothers, Edward and Allen, Jr.; sister, Mattie Harris; and her son Jeffrey Johnson.
Estella is lovingly remembered by her son, Demont Gibson; her grandchildren, Jordan and Estella Gibson, Kenai Kent and Scott Hanley; and her many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.”
- Matthew 25:21
