Erma Aker Obituary

Erma Janet Aker was born on August 27, 1946 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to the late Julius “Jabo” and Irene Cabine.  The Lord called her home on December 22, 2019 surrounded by her family. She was the fifth child in a family of twelve children.  Erma was baptized at an early age at St. Luke Methodist Church in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. After graduating from Coleman High school in Pine Bluff, Arkansas she moved to Portland, Oregon to be with her brother Monroe Cabine.  Shortly after relocating to Portland, she met and married Lamar. They both joined Allen Temple CME where they served as faithful servants for many years before transferring their membership to Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Portland, Oregon where they continued to be faithful servants.

After marrying Lamar, they both knew the importance of entrepreneurship as well as property ownership.  They were established small business owners.  Erma also became a nurse and worked for Kaiser for 32 years.

Erma loved to travel. She traveled to many amazing foreign countries over the years.  She also loved the outdoor life including nature walks, as well as rafting and camping. When she was home, she spent a great deal of time gardening as reflected by the beautiful flowers in her yard.  She was known as the green thumb within the family. Erma also was known to constantly remodel her home. It was not unusual to visit and a whole new room was under construction. Also, she was an avid reader of novels and political news enthusiast.

Erma was preceded in death by her parents Julius “Jabo” and Irene Cabine, a brother, Raymond Cabine; and a sister Lorraine Cabine.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving and supportive husband of 55 years “Lamar”; daughter, Angela of Atlanta, Georgia; sons, Andre (Kathy), Lacey, Washington; and Brandon, Gresham, Oregon.  Erma also leaves 6 Grandchildren, Nathan, Jordan, Camilla, Arya, Isabella and Lilliana.  Her sisters, Dorothy, Gloria; and Brenda (Chever).  Her brothers, Samuel (Pat), Eugene, Monroe (Betty), Emanuel (Judy), Rickey (Noreen); and Gerald (Cristy), as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.
