Obituary

Edward “Ed” D. Dobbins was born November 1, 1946, to William Henry and Myrtle Dobbins in Decatur, Alabama. On Saturday, September 19, 2020, God called Ed to his New Heavenly Home.

He accepted Christ as his savior at an early age and became a member of Kings Memorial Methodist Church. After moving to Portland, Oregon, Ed was a faithful member of Bethel AME Church and attended until his death. He served Bethel as a Trustee, and as a member of the Usher Board, Male Chorus, Men of Bethel, and Finance Committee.

Ed graduated Salutatorian of his class at Lakeside High School in Decatur, Alabama. He matriculated at Alabama A&M University and later at the University of Portland where he studied
pre-med. He was industrious and worked several jobs while attending college. Ed worked at Atofina for 32 years and retired with the title of Production Foreman for the Intermediate Chemical Group. After retirement, Ed continued to work small jobs.

Ed had a wonderful sense of humor and a big smile. He was easygoing, and had a kind, gentle spirit. Ed met Pat, a visitor to his hometown, while in high school in 1961. Ed and Pat kept in touch and married on December 30, 1969.

Ed was a faithful member of Beaver Lodge #3 of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Oregon, Idaho & Montana. He held numerous offices over the years and was a 33rd degree Mason serving as Past Grand Master. Ed also served as Past Deputy of the Orient of Willamette Consistory #23 of Oregon Jurisdiction.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry and Myrtle Dobbins; sister, Linda Dobbins Stovall; and brothers, Rev. William Curtis Dobbins, Albert Dobbins, and Samuel Dobbins.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory:  his wife Patricia Dobbins, sisters, Gladys Smith of Decatur, AL and Erma (John) Rainey of Chicago, IL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
