Dora Jean Hill

Dora Jean Hill was born on January 28, 1940, in Vicksburg, Mississippi to Bennie L. Manuel and Percy N. Manuel, Sr. 

The family moved to Oregon when she was young in 1954. Dora went to a couple of elementary schools, Elliott Elementary being one of them. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1958. She attended Western Business College, and became a Steno clerk for a few years before accepting a position with the City of Portland Water Bureau as a Radio Dispatcher for 35 years. She received an award for 30 years commendable service.

Dora was an outstanding babysitter for her cousins (they know who they are) and we're sure they kept her on her toes, and P's and Q's. Dora was always loving, kind, and generous towards others. Being a single parent, she raised three wonderful children on her own. On payday's she made sure she got them something special. 

Though illness took a toll on her physical body, MeMaw faced her final days resting in the arms of Jesus. Her unwavering faith in God was her anchor, and we take comfort knowing she is now at peace in her eternal home. Dora faced everyday with a gentle spirit and a quiet strength that inspired everyone around her. 

She was preceded in death by her father, Percy N. Manuel, Sr., mother, Bennie L. Manuel, brothers, Clement T. Stewart and Booker T. Stewart; son, Brian D. Hill; and grandson, Je'ron N. Hill. 

She leaves to cherish her memories, son, Lamar L. Hill, Sr.; daughter, Cynthia A. Hill; sisters, Patricia D. Thompson, and Taquetta I. Mitchell; four grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. 

Guests are welcome to wear any shade of blue to the funeral in honor of Dora, but this is optional.
