Dominique Brandon Griggs,36. passed away on September 2, 2025, in Portland, Oregon. Born on January 28, 1989, in the same city he called home throughout most of his life, Dominique brought joy and warmth to all who knew him.
Dominique was a proud Portland native who attended Central Middle School and Gulfport High School! He then later attended Jefferson High School. Over the years, he worked at several local businesses including Standard Appliances, Trees Dispensary, and Amazon. In each role, he was known for his friendly demeanor and strong work ethic.
A devoted father, Dominique leaves behind his beloved children: DaLaijah Griggs, Da'Zean Griggs, Za'Najah Hardy, and Amour Griggs. He is also survived by his loving mother Dana Griggs; his maternal grandmother Deloris Griggs; his siblings Derrick Griggs, Madison Griggs, and Robert Kennedy; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins who will forever cherish his memory.
Known affectionately to many as "Dom" and known by his family as "Scooter". Dominique had an infectious spirit that it up every room he entered. He never met a stranger- his smile was ever-present and his heart was always open. Whether offering a listening ear or sharing a laugh at a family gathering, Scooter made everyone feel seen and valued. He loved soul food and could often be heard asking with genuine curiosity and excitement, "What did you cook?"
Sports were one of Dominique's greatest passions He loved both football and basketballsports he not only followed but played during his youth. His admiration for Steph Cury ran deep; he could recite Curry's stats with impressive accuracy and enthusiasm. And you could not tell him he was not the best!
More than anything else, Dominique loved his family deeply. He was a father, brother, uncle, cousin-and above all-a friend to many. His respectfulness and warmth left lasting impressions on everyone fortunate enough to cross paths with him.
Dominique was preceded in death by his great-grandmother Darness Lee Neyland, and paternal grandfather, Richard Pleasant. As well as his sisters Kaelieana Griggs and Deyonna Griggs.
A memorial service celebrating Dominique's life will be held on September 27, 2025, in Portland, Oregon.
As we remember Dominique today and every day:
"We thought of you today. But that's nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday and the days before too.
We think of you in silence. We often speak your name.
Now all we have are memories. And your picture in frame.
Your memory is our keepsake. With which we'll never part.
God has you in His keeping- We have you in our hearts."-- Author Unknown
